SideNote Privacy Policy
Privacy-first. Offline-first. Built for your data.
Last updated: July 2025
1. Introduction
SideNote is an offline-first productivity workspace built directly inside Chrome's Side Panel. This Privacy Policy explains how SideNote handles your data. SideNote is a product of OutSends, and this policy applies specifically to your use of the SideNote Chrome extension.
Unlike most productivity apps, SideNote stores your content locally on your device. By default, your notes, tasks, journal entries, habits, and web clippings never leave your computer. This document explains exactly what data is stored where, what is transmitted, and what choices you have.
2. Local Storage
SideNote stores the following data exclusively on your local device using Chrome's built-in storage APIs (IndexedDB and chrome.storage.local):
- Notes (content, formatting, metadata)
- Tasks and to-do items
- Journal entries
- Habit tracking data
- Web clippings and saved content
- Workspace preferences and settings
- Folder structures and tags
- Application theme and layout preferences
By default, this data is NOT uploaded to OutSends servers. Your content remains on your device and is accessible only to you through the SideNote extension. There is no cloud synchronization unless you explicitly enable a future sync feature.
You can delete all local data at any time by clearing the extension's storage through Chrome's settings or by removing and reinstalling the extension.
3. Account Information
If you choose to upgrade to a paid SideNote plan, you will create or use an existing OutSends account. Account information is used solely for:
- Authentication — verifying your identity when you sign in
- Subscription management — tracking your plan (Free, Monthly, Yearly, or Lifetime)
- Billing — processing payments through our payment partner
- Trial management — tracking your 7-day free trial status
- Profile — storing your email address and basic preferences
Your workspace content remains local. Account information does not include your notes, tasks, journal entries, habits, or web clippings. These are never transmitted to our servers as part of account management.
4. AI Features
SideNote includes an optional AI Assistant feature. When you use the AI Assistant:
- Your prompt and relevant context are sent to your selected AI provider to generate a response
- AI requests are processed in real time and responses are returned to your local workspace
- AI requests are not stored on OutSends servers
- AI providers may process requests according to their own privacy policies
SideNote supports the following AI providers (subject to availability):
- OpenAI (GPT models)
- Anthropic (Claude models)
- Google Gemini
- DeepSeek
- Groq
- Mistral
- OpenRouter
- Ollama (local models)
- Any future supported provider
You are responsible for reviewing the privacy policies of the AI providers you choose to use. When using Ollama with a local model, AI requests never leave your computer. You can disable the AI Assistant at any time, or simply not use it.
5. Payments
All payments for SideNote subscriptions are processed securely by Lemon Squeezy, our trusted payment partner. OutSends never receives, stores, or has access to your full credit card information. Lemon Squeezy handles all payment processing, tax collection, and invoice generation in accordance with their privacy policy and PCI-DSS compliance standards.
Billing-related information we may receive includes your name, email address, subscription plan, payment status, and transaction dates. This information is used solely to manage your subscription and provide support.
6. Analytics
At the time of writing, SideNote does NOT use advertising trackers and does NOT collect analytics about the contents of your notes, tasks, journal, or any other workspace data.
However, privacy-friendly analytics may be introduced in the future to help us improve:
- Application performance and stability
- Bug identification and fixing
- Feature usage patterns to guide product improvements
- Overall product quality
If analytics are introduced, this Privacy Policy will be updated accordingly before any data collection begins. Any analytics implemented will NEVER include the content of your personal notes, tasks, journal entries, or any other workspace data. We will only collect anonymous technical metrics such as load times, error rates, and feature usage counts.
You will always have the option to opt out of any future analytics collection.
7. Your Rights
You have full control over your data. At any time, you can:
- Export your data — Export all notes, tasks, and journal entries as Markdown files
- Delete local data — Clear all locally stored workspace content through Chrome's extension settings
- Delete your account — Request deletion of your OutSends account and associated billing information
- Cancel your subscription — Cancel any paid plan at any time; your data remains local
- Opt out of future analytics — Decline any future analytics collection if introduced
For GDPR-related requests (applicable to users in the European Economic Area), including data access, rectification, or erasure requests, please contact us at the email below. Since your workspace content is stored locally and never transmitted to our servers, most data requests can be fulfilled directly by you through the extension's built-in export and deletion features.
