How to Set Up a Custom Tracking Domain
Using a custom tracking domain ensures open and click tracking links use your own brand name instead of a generic shared URL, keeping your domain reputation isolated and clean.
What you'll need
Before you start, make sure you have the following ready.
- Access to your domain DNS provider (Cloudflare, GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.)
- OutSends account
Step-by-step guide
Follow these steps to complete the setup.
Choose a tracking subdomain
Pick a clean subdomain prefix that you do not use for your main website, such as track.yourdomain.com or link.yourdomain.com.
Create a CNAME record in your DNS settings
Log in to your DNS provider (e.g. Cloudflare) and create a new CNAME record: Name = track, Target = track.outsends.com (or your designated OutSends CNAME target).
Set proxy status to DNS Only (Cloudflare users)
If using Cloudflare, turn off the orange proxy cloud so the record is DNS only (Grey Cloud). This allows OutSends to issue your SSL certificate.
Add your domain in OutSends Settings
Go to Settings > Tracking Domains in OutSends, enter track.yourdomain.com, and click Verify Domain.
Click "Set as Active"
Once DNS verification completes, click Set as Active to designate this domain for all outgoing link and open tracking.
